A BS5837 tree survey records every tree on and next to the site that could affect, or be affected by, the development. We produce a CAD survey plan showing each tree’s position, crown spread and root protection area, so your architect can design around the trees from the start.

All surveys and reports are produced to BS5837:2012, the current standard. We follow the proposed revision closely and already include its improvements where they help, such as projecting canopy growth at 10, 20 and 30 years.

The survey data is overlaid on your topographical survey to produce a Tree Constraints Plan. It shows clearly where trees limit the layout, above ground (crowns and shading) and below ground (root protection areas), so constraints are designed in, not discovered late.

The Arboricultural Impact Assessment looks at your proposed layout against the trees: which are retained, which are removed, and the direct and indirect effects of the development on each one. It sets out the mitigation needed and is written in the format local authorities expect.

The Tree Protection Plan shows how retained trees will be protected before and during construction: protective fencing, construction exclusion zones and ground protection, set out on a plan the contractor can follow on site.

The Arboricultural Method Statement sets out how any work near retained trees will be carried out, including excavation, machinery, storage of materials, service routes and any special construction methods used within root protection areas.

Where planning conditions require it, we carry out site inspections during construction, with written records and photographs, to show that tree protection is in place and the method statement has been followed. This gives you the evidence to discharge your tree conditions.

NHBC Chapter 4.2 tree surveys record the species, height and water demand of trees near proposed foundations, with soil and geology information from published sources, and CAD plans for your structural engineer to set foundation depths.

If you’re buying a property with trees nearby, a pre-purchase tree report assesses the risk those trees present to the building and sets out any work needed.
