Tree Inventory and Condition Survey for Blackpool Council
THE CHALLENGE:
Blackpool Council required a comprehensive tree inventory and condition survey covering a substantial proportion of the council's managed tree stock across the borough — including street trees, park trees, and trees on council-managed housing estates.
The survey needed to produce a high-quality, consistent dataset that could be integrated into the council's existing asset management systems, provide a defensible record of the condition of the council's tree stock at a defined point in time, and support the council's tree management planning and budget allocation processes for the coming years.
OUR ROLE:
Urban Tree Management carried out a large-scale tree inventory and condition survey across Blackpool, recording all trees in the survey scope using GPS-enabled digital survey software compatible with the council's asset management system.
Every tree was surveyed for species, dimensions, condition, and management requirements — with all findings recorded to produce a georeferenced tree inventory, condition ratings, and management recommendations for every tree in the survey. The dataset was structured and formatted to integrate directly with the council's existing systems and to support the council's tree management planning process.
THE OUTCOME:
Blackpool Council received a comprehensive, GPS-mapped tree inventory and condition survey dataset covering their managed tree stock across the borough — providing an accurate, up-to-date record of the condition of the council's trees, clear management recommendations and a prioritised works schedule to support budget planning, and a defensible baseline record for future inspection and management cycles.
This project demonstrates Urban Tree Management's capability to deliver large-scale local authority tree inventory and condition survey programmes efficiently and to the technical standard required by public sector asset management systems.
