Tree Inspection and Risk Assessment for Lymm High School — Warrington

THE CHALLENGE:

Lymm High School in Warrington — one of the highest-performing secondary schools in Cheshire — has a substantial tree population across its extensive school grounds, including mature trees close to buildings, sports facilities, and areas of high pupil activity.

The school required a professionally documented tree inspection and risk assessment to satisfy its duty of care obligations and provide a defensible record of tree risk management across the grounds — particularly given the volume of pupil and public access on the site during and after school hours.

OUR ROLE:

Urban Tree Management carried out a comprehensive tree inspection and risk assessment across the full school grounds, assessing all trees using the Visual Tree Assessment methodology and risk-rating using QTRA — the industry-leading quantified risk assessment methodology.

All findings were recorded using GPS-enabled digital survey software, producing a georeferenced tree location plan for the full site, condition and risk ratings for every tree, and a prioritised works schedule identifying all trees requiring management intervention. The survey was carried out by DBS-checked consultants in compliance with the school's safeguarding requirements.

THE OUTCOME:

Lymm High School received a professionally produced tree inspection and risk assessment report covering all trees across the school grounds — providing clear evidence that their duty of care obligations were being actively and professionally managed, a prioritised works schedule for their site management team, and a defensible record of inspection and assessment for their governors and insurers.

This project demonstrates Urban Tree Management's experience in delivering school tree safety surveys within the specific safeguarding and duty of care requirements of the secondary education sector
