Tree Condition Survey for MediaCity UK — Salford

THE CHALLENGE:

MediaCity UK in Salford — one of the UK's most significant media and technology campuses, home to the BBC, ITV, and numerous other major organisations — has an extensive tree population across its public realm, waterfront areas, and campus grounds.

As a high-profile, high-footfall commercial campus with significant public access and reputational obligations, MediaCity UK required a professionally documented tree condition survey that would provide an accurate picture of the current health and condition of the tree stock, identify any trees requiring management intervention, and provide a baseline dataset for future inspection cycles.

OUR ROLE:

Urban Tree Management carried out a comprehensive tree condition survey across the MediaCity UK campus, recording all trees using GPS-enabled digital survey software and assessing each tree's species, condition, structural integrity, and management requirements.

The survey produced a georeferenced tree location plan covering the full campus, condition ratings and management recommendations for every tree surveyed, and a prioritised works schedule identifying all trees requiring immediate or short-term management intervention. The dataset was structured to allow seamless updating at future inspection cycles, building a living record of the campus tree stock over time.

THE OUTCOME:

MediaCity UK received a professionally produced, GPS-mapped tree condition survey dataset covering the full campus — providing an accurate, up-to-date picture of the condition of their tree stock, clear management recommendations and a prioritised works schedule for their facilities management team, and a defensible baseline record of tree condition for future inspection and management planning purposes.

This project demonstrates Urban Tree Management's experience in delivering tree condition surveys for major commercial campuses and high-footfall public realm environments across Greater Manchester and Salford.
